Iowa is receiving nearly $50 million in federal funding to expand physician residency programs and improve cancer care access statewide. Gov. Kim Reynolds and U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks announced the funding at UnityPoint Hospital in Muscatine.
Expanding Healthcare Access
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services said the money will support more than 128 additional physicians across the state. Miller-Meeks, a physician herself, highlighted the importance of residency programs in retaining doctors.
The state also announced that five hospitals have been selected as awardees for the Combat Cancer Health Hub Program. The program aims to create a network of cancer care across Iowa and expand care in rural communities.
