Jaidyn Coon, a four-star recruit, is set to join the Iowa Hawkeyes as a freshman. Coon has big goals for his first year, including dunking on an opponent. What sets him apart is his unique background – he grew up working on his family’s pig farm in Iowa.
A Pig Farmer’s Work Ethic
Coon’s experience on the farm has taught him the value of hard work. ‘I worked eight to nine hours a day on a pig farm,’ he said. His grandfather, who raises over a million hogs for the state of Iowa, owns the farm. Coon has spent a lot of time on the farm, doing maintenance work and power washing. He believes this experience will help him in his athletic career.
While Coon enjoys his new life as a college athlete, he acknowledges that pig farming can be tiring. ‘Summer workouts are definitely harder, but I actually enjoy it,’ he said. Coon is excited to be a part of the Hawkeyes and is looking forward to the challenges that come with being a college athlete.
