The Iowa Cubs hosted their 18th annual citizenship ceremony at Principal Park in Des Moines, welcoming 29 new U.S. citizens from 16 different countries across five continents. Each new citizen was honored before the first pitch.
One of the new citizens shared his plans after the ceremony, saying he would celebrate by getting a hot dog and a Coke, a tradition he learned when he first attended a baseball game. He expressed his happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to become a U.S. citizen.
The ceremony has been a tradition for the Iowa Cubs since 2009, with a total of 533 new citizens naturalized at the games over the years.
