A social media influencer, Sara Gilson, was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Jeremiah Duffey, in Owasso, Oklahoma, after she posted a video on TikTok accusing him of pedophilia. Gilson, 43, had more than 30,000 followers on TikTok and had filed an emergency protective order against Duffey after he was accused of molesting a minor.
Background
About a month before the shooting, a girl and her parent reported to police that Duffey, who coached the girl’s traveling basketball team, had inappropriately touched her during an event at an elementary school. Another team coach intervened and reported the incident to the girl’s parent. Similar conduct by Duffey towards the juvenile player was reported to have occurred over an extended period of time, in multiple law enforcement jurisdictions, across multiple states prior to this incident.
Gilson was granted an emergency protective order against Duffey on June 10, which ordered him to stay 100 yards away from her and her home at all times. However, on July 11, Gilson posted a video on TikTok accusing Duffey of pedophilia, and less than two weeks later, she was killed.
Police responded to a domestic violence incident at a residence in Collinsville, Oklahoma, where they found Gilson and Duffey dead from apparent gunshot wounds to the head. The deaths appear to be a murder-suicide, and Gilson’s son was taken into protective custody and later released to a parent who wasn’t involved in the incident.
