Indianapolis police have arrested a man accused of attacking two people in the same location on different days this month, resulting in one death and another serious injury. The incidents occurred on North Senate Avenue in downtown Indianapolis.
Investigation Details
According to Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine, the first attack happened on June 19 at 1:58 am. The victim, an adult male, was initially believed to have suffered a medical issue but was later found to have injuries consistent with a physical battery. The victim died on June 28.
A second attack occurred on June 26 at 2:12 am, also on North Senate Avenue. The victim of this attack is alive but seriously hurt. Investigators reviewed video footage and believed the suspect was the same person from the June 19 attack.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Michael Willis, was taken into custody on June 26 and transported to the Marion County Jail. Police believe Willis stomped both victims nearly 20 times.
The surveillance system on the state government campus and the expertise of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were instrumental in the investigation. The technology helped track the suspect and build a timeline, ultimately leading to Willis’ identification.
