Indiana teens who want to learn about how to make their voices heard can grow their advocacy skills at an upcoming summer camp. The Children’s Policy and Law Initiative of Indiana is putting on a three-day Civic Engagement Camp for young people ages 12 to 18.
Civic Engagement Camp Details
The camp will teach kids and teens about who makes decisions and how youth can use their voices to advocate on behalf of their community. Mentors will use real-world examples to show kids and teens how they can play a role in shaping decisions that affect education, jobs, and community investment.
Organizers say kids and teens will grow their leadership skills and gain a better understanding of how local government works. Kids and teens will also learn about job opportunities in public service fields.
The camp will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 7-9 at Polk Stables, 1533 Lewis St. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided. Registration is $30, and scholarship opportunities are available.
Peer Conflict Resolution Conference
The Children’s Policy and Law Initiative will also have a free Peer Conflict Resolution Conference from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11, open to teens ages 14 to 18. At this single-day event, teens will learn about how to resolve conflict in ways that avoid dangerous situations.
