Indiana Launches Mobile Disaster Centers to Aid Storm Victims with FEMA Applications

Indiana residents who suffered damage in the August storms now have a new, convenient way to apply for federal disaster aid. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is opening Mobile Registration Intake Centers on Friday, August 28, to connect survivors with state, county and FEMA representatives.

Where the centers are located

Five counties will host the mobile sites:

  • Delaware County: EMS Station 3, 4501 E. Memorial Drive, Muncie
  • Franklin County: Metamora Church of God, 20146 U.S. 52, Laurel
  • Fayette County: Baptist Temple School, 1380 State Road 44, Connersville
  • Marion County: Broad Ripple Family Center, 1426 Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis
  • Lake County: multiple locations (hours end at 4:30 p.m.)

All sites will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except Lake County locations, which close at 4:30 p.m.

Who can get help

Homeowners and renters in 21 Indiana counties – including Wayne, Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton and Union – may apply for FEMA assistance if they experienced uninsured damage from the recent tornadoes, storms and flooding.

Applicants should first file any applicable insurance claim. Those with homeowners, renters or flood insurance may still qualify for federal aid when their policies do not cover the full cost of disaster‑related expenses.

What to bring

When visiting a mobile center, survivors should have the following items ready:

  • Social Security number
  • Insurance policy information
  • Details of the damage incurred
  • Financial information and contact details
  • Direct‑deposit information (optional)

The quickest way to apply remains the online portal DisasterAssistance.gov, and the FEMA helpline (1‑800‑621‑3362) is available for multilingual assistance.

Fraud warning

IDHS cautions residents that FEMA representatives will never request payment to complete an application. All applications should be submitted through DisasterAssistance.gov, the FEMA helpline, or one of the Mobile Registration Intake Centers.

Next steps for applicants

Anyone who has already received state disaster relief funds must also submit a FEMA application to be considered for federal support. The mobile centers aim to streamline that process, offering face‑to‑face guidance and answering questions on the spot.

These efforts reflect Indiana’s commitment to helping families recover quickly and safely, reinforcing the state’s tradition of strong community support and responsible stewardship of federal resources.
