Indiana Governor Mike Braun is urging federal transportation officials to reject a proposal to reduce the number of lanes on the Clark Memorial Bridge, citing concerns that it could worsen traffic in Jeffersonville.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) had proposed a redesign of the bridge, which would involve removing the current sidewalk, installing a safety barrier wall, and condensing the bridge down to three lanes of traffic, with only one lane from Jeffersonville to Louisville.
Braun expressed his opposition to the plan in a July 29 letter to the Federal Highway Administration, stating that reducing southbound traffic to a single lane could lead to longer backups, safety concerns, and more drivers looking for alternate routes through Jeffersonville.
Jeffersonville’s mayor has also pushed back against the project, which is currently on hold due to the I-65 Central Corridor project.
