Indianapolis – In a move that aligns with President Trump’s push to broaden financial opportunity for American families, Brad Gerstner, founder and CEO of Altimeter Capital, said his family foundation will contribute more than $30 million to the newly created Trump Accounts program for Indiana children.
How the contribution works
Gerstner explained that the foundation will deposit $250 into the account of every eligible Indiana child born in 2023 or 2024, covering over 140,000 youngsters. Trump Accounts are federally backed investment accounts that provide a one‑time $1,000 contribution to U.S. citizens born between 2025 and 2028, with additional contributions allowed from parents and other supporters within annual limits.
Why the program matters
Speaking with Tony Katz on 93 WIBC, Gerstner said the idea grew out of witnessing the widening economic divide during the COVID‑19 pandemic. “The stock market was going to the moon, but people were losing their jobs,” he recalled. “It reminded us that many Americans were being left out of the economic game.”
Gerstner believes the Trump Accounts program can help close that gap by encouraging early investment and teaching financial literacy. He noted that, according to the program’s projections, a $250 seed contribution could grow to about $50,000 by age 18, $175,000 by age 30, and potentially $1 million by age 50 if families continue to contribute over a lifetime.
Legislative background
The Trump Accounts legislation was passed as part of the reconciliation bill on July 4, 2025, and the program launched on July 4, 2026, coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary. Gerstner’s Invest America Foundation, formed in 2022, helped draft the legislation and advocated for its passage.
Local impact
For Indiana families, the infusion of $250 per child represents a tangible step toward building wealth across generations. The contribution also underscores the Trump administration’s commitment to expanding economic opportunity for all Americans, especially those in the heartland.
Gerstner concluded, “Our goal is simple: get more Americans invested in the economy and give every child a solid financial start.”
