Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has launched a new weekly podcast, No Hesitation, co‑hosted with renowned basketball trainer Drew Hanlen. The show replaces her previous program, “Show Me Something,” which she hosted with “Summer House” personality West Wilson.
Why the change?
While the podcast’s social media and YouTube channels have been rebranded under the new name, neither Cunningham, Wilson nor The Volume has officially linked the shift to their public disagreement over transgender athletes in women’s sports. Wilson recently called transgender participation in American sports a “borderline non‑existent issue” and accused conservatives and the media of exaggerating the threat.
Cunningham’s stance
Cunningham reaffirmed her position, saying, “I think it’s common sense. It’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category.” She emphasized that she does not hate transgender people but believes the rights, safety and opportunities of biological women must be protected.
Podcast focus
In the debut episode, Cunningham and Hanlen avoided discussion of the former co‑host or the transgender‑athlete dispute, instead promising candid basketball conversation. “I just felt like there was not a podcast or really any social media out there that gave you real, honest truth about basketball and strictly basketball,” Cunningham said.
Hanlen noted that public perception often distorts Cunningham’s comments, adding, “People think you’re like some troll and make statements, but 99% of the time people ask you a question, you answer, you give your opinion, and then people blow it up and act like you made a big political statement.”
Critique of WNBA media
Cunningham argued that media coverage and award voting in the WNBA can be driven more by popularity and politics than on‑court performance. She called on reporters to highlight the league’s players and achievements, stating, “Now it’s on the WNBA media to actually tell the good stories, to tell the positive stories, to actually talk about basketball and how freaking awesome our league is playing this year.”
Future commissioner priorities
The episode also featured Cunningham’s list of priorities for the next WNBA commissioner, noting that some teams still practice in shared YMCA facilities without dedicated weight rooms. She urged a commissioner who communicates directly with players, remains firm under pressure, and can unite a politically divided league.
“No Hesitation” will focus on film study, strategy and the personalities driving professional basketball, with new episodes released each Thursday.
