Indiana farm stands by Charlie Kirk corn maze despite online backlash

Global Farms, a family‑owned operation in Indiana, announced it will repeat its massive corn maze tribute to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, even after receiving a wave of one‑star reviews online. Manager Jeremy Goebel told Fox News Digital that the farm’s intention was never to divide the community but to honor Kirk’s commitment to open debate and free speech.

Backlash and online reviews

Within hours of unveiling the maze design, the farm’s Google profile was flooded with one‑star ratings. Some reviewers posted photos of the maze alongside their low scores, claiming the tribute was deceptive. Google temporarily suspended the profile, prompting Goebel to file an appeal.

Why the farm chose Kirk

Goebel explained that the farm wanted to remember a man who, in his view, “lost his life promoting freedom of speech.” While acknowledging that not everyone agrees with Kirk’s positions, Goebel emphasized the farm’s respect for the principle of free expression. “We’re not saying we agree with everything he stood for, but we wanted to remember someone who gave his life for the cause of free speech and to get people educated,” he said.

Positive response from around the world

Despite the negative reviews, Goebel reported that the majority of recent feedback has been supportive. Messages of encouragement have arrived from as far away as Cape Town, South Africa, and Australia. “People are telling us they appreciate the reminder that America is great because we can challenge each other’s ideas and disagree,” Goebel said.

Free speech as a community value

Goebel framed the controversy as a broader conversation about how Americans listen to one another. “No one side has all the answers, and a lot of our best ideas come from different perspectives pushing each other to think differently,” he said. “We probably accomplish more as a society when we’re willing to listen instead of assuming the other side is wrong.”

Looking ahead

The farm plans to rebuild the maze for the upcoming season, promising the same design and message. Goebel said the farm hopes the tribute will continue to spark dialogue about the importance of free speech in a pluralistic nation.

Google’s response

Fox News Digital reached out to Google for comment on the temporary suspension. A spokesperson indicated the company follows standard procedures when a business receives a surge of potentially misleading reviews, but declined to discuss the specific case.
