Incumbents Lead in Los Angeles Congressional Primaries

In the recent Los Angeles congressional primaries, several Democratic incumbents have emerged as frontrunners, according to early unofficial results. U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, representing California’s 43rd Congressional District since 2013, leads with 63% of the vote, while her Republican challenger, Cristian Morales, a manufacturing executive, garnered 19.6%. Both will face off in the November 3 general election.

Other Key Districts

In the 32nd District, U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calabasas, is slightly ahead with 37.8% of the vote, closely followed by Republican Larry Thompson, an attorney from Malibu, who received 37%. This district was redrawn recently, and Sherman has been its representative since 2023.

U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Los Angeles, leads in the 34th District with 48% of the vote, while Democrat Angela Gonzales-Torres, an activist, secured 24.1%. Republican Calvin Lee trails with 18.4%, but the final results could change the lineup for the November election.

In the 36th District, U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Santa Monica, received 59.6% of the vote. Two Republicans, Houston Brignano, a technology executive, and Melissa Toomim, an investigative journalist, are competing for the second spot with 17.9% and 14.5%, respectively.

U.S. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Los Angeles, leads the 37th District with 54.3% of the vote, while Republican Baltazar Fedalizo, a lobbyist, follows with 14.2%. In the 44th District, U.S. Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragan, D-Carson, has a commanding lead with 73.7% against Republican Genevieve Angel, a nurse practitioner, who received 26.3%.

These results highlight the strong position of Democratic incumbents in Los Angeles as they prepare for the upcoming general election.
