Prineville, Ore. – The Crook County Fairgrounds will come alive on October 17 when the inaugural Crook County Demolition Derby rolls onto the dirt track. Organized by local promoter Redneck Entertainment Promotions, the event promises a full day of high‑octane entertainment for families and motorsport fans alike.
Local roots drive the revival
Redneck Entertainment Promotions was founded by Prineville‑based demolition‑derby driver Brian Winters. Winters grew up watching his father, brothers and uncles compete in demolition derbies across Oregon during the 1990s and 2000s, and his own father even ran a derby in Prineville. After the sport faded from Crook County, Winters decided to bring it back for the community that raised him.
What to expect on the track
The derby will feature two classes – full‑size and compact chain‑and‑bang – with only limited modifications allowed on the vehicles. Drivers will compete in successive rounds of crashes, and the last car running in each heat will claim victory. Heat winners will receive cash prizes starting at $1,000, and the overall prize pool will grow as more entrants sign up.
“I don’t want to see drivers dancing around each other,” Winters said. “I want them to put on a show.” His goal is to deliver an exciting, crowd‑pleasing spectacle that showcases the raw, gritty fun of demolition derby.
Family‑friendly attractions
Beyond the main event, organizers have added a swap meet, a small‑vehicle barrel‑racing competition and a special demolition derby for children ages 4 to 6, giving families plenty of reasons to stay the whole day.
Gates open at 3 p.m., with the first races slated to begin at 5 p.m. Drivers may register up to one hour before the start of competition. According to the promoters, some participants are already planning to travel from as far away as Utah to take part.
Community impact
The derby is expected to draw spectators from across Crook County and neighboring regions, providing a boost to local businesses and reinforcing Prineville’s reputation as a hub for family‑oriented outdoor events. With cash prizes on the line and a chance for drivers to showcase their skill, the event also offers a platform for regional racers to gain exposure.
