Idaho Fish and Game has plans to release more than 110,000 rainbow trout into fishing holes across the state. The fish stocking has started across the state, with thousands of fish released in the first week already.
Where to Catch the Stocked Fish
The fish will be stocked in various lakes and waterways, including Gene Day Pond, Elk Creek Reservoir, Payette Lake, and the Salmon River. The Idaho Fish and Game website has a full list of stocking locations and schedules.
Some of the locations that will receive the most fish this month include the Panhandle Region’s Gene Day Pond, which will get 900 rainbow trout, and the Clearwater Region’s Elk Creek Reservoir, which will receive 3,000 rainbow trout between July 6th and 10th.
In the Southwest Region, Payette Lake will be filled with 5,000 fish, and the Payette River will get about 5,000 trout. The Magic Valley Region’s Big Trinity Lake will get 2,000 fish at the end of the month, and Lake Cleveland will get 3,000 between the 6th and the 10th of July.
The Southeast Region’s Little River Reservoir, Montpelier Creek, Pebble Creek, and Toponce Creek will each get 1,000 rainbow trout in July. The Upper Snake Region’s Henry’s Fork will receive 3,350 fish, half in the second week and the rest in the final week of July.
The Salmon Region’s Salmon River will be given a healthy dose of 13,360 trout across four sections of the river. Stanley Lake will get 2,100 fish, Valley Creek gets 2,000, and Hayden Creek Pond will get 1,100 fish this month.
