Idaho GOP Chairwoman Dorothy Moon Seeks Third Term

Dorothy Moon, who has led the Idaho Republican Party since 2022, announced her candidacy for a third term as chairwoman. Her leadership has focused on maintaining Idaho’s status as a conservative stronghold, defending election integrity, and supporting grassroots volunteers and county parties.

Conservative Leadership and Party Platform

Under Moon’s guidance, the Idaho GOP adopted a new party platform in 2022, which she describes as a return to conservative principles. This platform includes Article XX, allowing committees to censure lawmakers who do not adhere closely to the party’s platform. This has led to actions such as the censure of Rep. Stephanie Mickelsen, who was also prohibited from running as a Republican.

Moon’s leadership has been marked by efforts to increase volunteer engagement, improve coordination among county parties, and support Republican victories. She also played a role in opposing the ranked-choice voting initiative in 2024.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Convention

The announcement of Moon’s re-election bid comes ahead of the 2026 Idaho GOP State Convention, set for June 18–20 in Meridian. During this convention, Republican delegates will have the opportunity to propose changes to the party’s rules and platform. Moon emphasizes the importance of party unity as the 2026 election cycle approaches.

As of now, it is unclear if Moon will face any opposition in her bid for re-election. Her focus remains on building the party and supporting Republican candidates across Idaho.
