ICE agents and local law enforcement officers were involved in a raid at Club Level on East 9th Street in Texarkana, Arkansas, over the weekend, taking multiple people into custody.
Details of the Raid
The band performing that night, ‘Los Terribles Del Norte,’ posted a video on its Facebook page as the raid was happening. The band also issued a statement expressing support for the Latino community and criticizing the raid.
Level Dance Club, the owner of Club Level, released a statement directed to the Latino community, saying they stand in solidarity with the families and friends affected by the raid. The club also criticized the ICE operation, saying it not only affected people wanting to have a good time but also the club’s business.
According to the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, the investigation at Club Level was conducted following community complaints about the illegal sale of alcohol to minors and operating without the required state permits. Officers found the establishment lacked proper alcohol licensing, and the owner and two bartenders were cited.
Some patrons refused to provide ID, prompting the involvement of the Department of Homeland Security. The police department stated the operation was not an immigration enforcement action.
