An ICE officer shot and killed an illegal immigrant in Houston after the individual tried to ram the officer with a car during a traffic stop, according to ICE.
The incident occurred at around 6:50 a.m. when ICE officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen. Araujo tried evading the ICE officers and “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense,” an ICE spokesperson said.
Araujo was struck and taken to a hospital, where he later died. The FBI is investigating the shooting.
Recent Incidents Involving ICE Officers
This incident is not isolated, as ICE officers have faced a significant increase in assaults and threats. According to ICE, there has been a more than 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,300% increase in vehicular attacks, and an 8,000% increase in death threats against ICE officers.
