A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 75 southbound in Sarasota County, Florida, occurred on Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash involved a 2007 Ford Van and a 2010 Freightliner cab pulling a trailer.
The van, driven by a 62-year-old Tampa man with a 48-year-old female passenger, was traveling south in the right lane of I-75 below the minimum speed limit. The semi-truck, driven by a 46-year-old Miami man, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the van.
The impact forced the van off the right side of the road, where it overturned on the grassy shoulder and came to rest on its roof facing south. The semi-truck also exited the roadway to the right, rotated clockwise, and flipped onto its left side in the grass, stopping in a southbound direction.
State Trooper J. Flow is investigating the incident, which remains under investigation.
