A major traffic disruption occurred on northbound Interstate 75 in Pasco County on Saturday morning after an oversized commercial vehicle collided with a passenger SUV. The incident involved three vehicles: a tractor-trailer pulling two oversized hauler trailers, a Subaru Forester, and a Dodge Ram 2500 helper truck.
Details of the Crash
The collision was triggered when the driver of the Dodge Ram support vehicle unlocked the semi’s rear trailer to assist the oversized rig with a lane change. This action caused the rear trailer, which was carrying an empty evaporator tank, to swing sharply to the left. The swinging trailer slammed into the side of the Subaru Forester. The massive trailer then overrode the smaller SUV before both vehicles ground to a halt, stretching across the roadway.
The impact completely blocked all northbound lanes of the interstate. Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported the driver of the Subaru and her 22-year-old female passenger, also from Georgia, to a local hospital. Both women suffered only minor injuries. Neither of the truck drivers reported any injuries from the incident.
The interstate remained entirely closed to northbound traffic for nearly two hours while emergency teams worked to clear the scene. FHP officials confirmed that the lanes were finally reopened to traffic at 11:40 a.m.
