A big rig fire has disrupted traffic on I-49 southbound in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Emergency crews responded to the scene near mile marker 110, close to Lena, shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday. The truck involved was carrying a load of paper.
Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District 1 are on the scene, with assistance from Rapides Parish fire units from Taylor Hill. Deputies are diverting all southbound traffic off I-49 at the Chopin exit at mile marker 113, redirecting drivers to Louisiana Highway 1 at Chopin.
The sheriff’s office advises motorists using this detour to exercise caution, particularly when approaching a sharp curve as they prepare to cross the Cane River Bridge near the RoyOMartin plywood plant. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
