The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has begun a project to upgrade six I-41 flyover ramps in Brown County. The $6.87 million project, funded through a mixture of state and federal funding, aims to preserve the roads by applying a new, more robust weather-resistant overlay called Polyester Polymer Concrete.
Project Details
The project involves milling off the existing deck overlay, performing necessary deck repairs, and applying the new overlay. According to Wisconsin DOT Project Manager Josh Lang, the new overlay is key for high-traffic areas and will protect the bridge decks from wear and tear.
The first ramp closure starts with I-41 south to 29 west and will last about a week. The DOT expects all of the Brown County improvements to be done by September, while the Winnebago County project will begin in 2027.
