A revised redevelopment plan for Hyde Park Square has sparked pushback from the grassroots organization Save Hyde Park Square. The plan, proposed by PLK Communities, includes the demolition of the Peebles Building, a historic structure that is home to apartments and businesses.

Concerns Over Demolition

Save Hyde Park Square argues that the removal of the Peebles Building would be a major loss for the community, as it is one of the most significant and intact buildings on the square. The organization claims that the building has been well-maintained and is an important part of the square’s character.

PLK Communities has stated that the revised plan reflects more than two dozen specific design moves made in response to community feedback, including reductions in height. The developer also noted that the Peebles Building is not officially landmarked by the city of Cincinnati.

Community Input

The revised plan is now under city review. Save Hyde Park Square is urging the city to reject the plan and work with the community to find a solution that preserves the Peebles Building.
