The Hutto City Council has given the green light to a new Residence Inn Hotel development on a 2.9-acre site at 328 Ed Schmidt Boulevard. This decision follows a recommendation from the Hutto Planning and Zoning Commission, which considered the proposal on May 5. The commission voted 3-1 in favor of the project, which includes a height increase to 55 feet, reduced parking at 0.9 spaces per guest room, and allowance for a blank north facade.
Howard Koontz, the director of development services, provided updates during the meeting, addressing the request for reduced parking standards and the hotel’s proposed height. The City Council’s unanimous approval of the ordinance signifies a commitment to fostering local economic development while accommodating the project’s specific needs.
Capital Improvement Projects Update
In related news, Interim City Engineer Patricia Davis provided an update on Hutto’s capital improvement projects. Among these is the city’s new justice center, for which the preliminary site layout is complete. Construction is anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with completion expected in 2028. Earlier this year, the council approved a $1.56 million design contract with PBK Architecture for the justice center, underlining the city’s ongoing infrastructure development efforts.
