Huntsville Hospital Celebrates 100 Years of Newborn Care with Drone Show

Huntsville Hospital Health System is marking a significant milestone in North Alabama’s healthcare history by celebrating 100 years of delivering babies. The hospital, which first welcomed a newborn named Buddy Miller on June 11, 1926, will host a free family event on June 6 at The Orion Amphitheater.

Celebrating a Century of Trust

The event, titled ‘100 Years of Babies Celebration,’ will run from 6-8 p.m. and feature inflatables, games, music, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities. The evening will culminate in The Orion’s inaugural drone show at 8:30 p.m., honoring the hospital’s century-long legacy of serving families and welcoming new lives.

Tracy Doughty, president and chief operating officer of Huntsville Hospital, emphasized the importance of trust placed in the hospital by families over the years. ‘Every baby born here represents a family placing their trust in us during one of the happiest moments of their lives,’ Doughty said. ‘For 100 years, that trust has shaped who we are. It’s a privilege to celebrate the families we’ve served, the caregivers who made it possible, and the future we are building for the next generation.’

Pioneering Maternal and Infant Care

Huntsville Hospital has been at the forefront of advancing maternal and infant care in the region. It was the first in North Alabama to open a neonatal nursery and the first in the state to establish an obstetrics emergency department. Today, Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children delivers more babies each year than any other hospital in Alabama, according to HH Health.

Guests planning to attend the drone show are encouraged to be seated inside the amphitheater bowl by 8:15 p.m. This event not only celebrates the hospital’s past achievements but also looks forward to continuing its legacy of excellence in maternal and newborn care.
