The Houston Airport System is preparing for an influx of passengers traveling through the city’s airways for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. An estimated 4.5 million travelers from around the globe are expected to land in Houston between June 12 and July 6.
Upgraded Facilities and Concessions
To accommodate the increased traffic, the Houston Airport System has upgraded its facilities and concessions at both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). A fully operational Terminal E at IAH will improve passenger flow and capacity. New concessions, such as Landry’s Seafood House at HOU and Simone Biles’ Taste of Gold at IAH, will offer travelers distinctly Houston experiences.
Additionally, the airports have implemented multilingual customer service teams to assist passengers in navigating terminals, finding transportation, and locating concessions. Free, in-terminal fan activations will promote the energy of the World Cup through spin-the-wheel giveaways, photo opportunities, video games, foosball, and prizes for travelers.
Managing the Impact
The Houston Airport System recommends that travelers plan ahead by reviewing flight statuses and parking availability, and allowing themselves extra time during peak periods of travel. Parking reservations can be arranged as little as two hours in advance.
A total of seven matches are scheduled to take place in Houston, with the first match at NRG Stadium, temporarily branded as ‘Houston Stadium’ during the FIFA events, between Germany and Curacao on June 14.
