House Majority Leader Scalise warns Democrats would impeach Trump if they win House majority

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R‑LA) warned that Democrats are prepared to move against former President Donald Trump the moment they secure a majority in the House of Representatives following the November elections. Scalise said, “Democrats aren’t even being shy about it. They’re telling you what they would do. I mean, they’ll impeach the president day one.”

Recent impeachment history

During the last period when Democrats held the House majority, they successfully passed two impeachment resolutions against Trump. Both efforts fell short of conviction in the Senate, leaving the former president without a criminal verdict but establishing a precedent for future attempts.

Progressive resolutions on the floor

While senior Democratic leaders have not publicly called for a new impeachment, a wave of progressive lawmakers has already introduced multiple resolutions targeting Trump and members of his administration. The resolutions range from formal impeachment articles to broader inquiries into the former president’s conduct and the actions of his Cabinet.

Republican response and political framing

Scalise framed the potential impeachment push as part of a broader “far‑left” agenda that he says threatens American families. He linked the impeachment threat to what he described as socialist policies, including proposals to raise taxes, reopen borders, and “defund prisons.” “These are tough members. And these are members who have been working with President Trump to make life more affordable for families all across America, running against socialists,” Scalise said.

He also highlighted recent primary victories by candidates aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America, suggesting that such victories signal a shift toward what he called a “Bolshevik revolution” within the Democratic Party.

Electoral implications

Scalise pointed to several competitive races where Republicans believe they have a chance to flip seats, citing former Maine Governor Paul LePage’s potential challenge, as well as contests in Texas, Ohio and Florida. He argued that voter rejection of “extreme socialism” could help Republicans regain a House majority and block any impeachment effort.

Democratic reaction

Fox News Digital reached out to the Democratic Party’s campaign arm for comment on Scalise’s statements. No response was received at the time of publication.

Constitutional context

The impeachment process is a constitutional mechanism that allows Congress to hold federal officials accountable for “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Critics of the proposed impeachment argue that it would be a politically motivated use of a constitutional tool, while supporters contend that it is a necessary check on executive misconduct.

As the November elections approach, the debate over whether impeachment will become a central issue on the national agenda is likely to intensify, with both parties positioning their arguments around constitutional authority, parental‑rights, and the impact on American families.
