The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta has commenced, with thousands gathering to witness the launch of dozens of hot air balloons. Despite the parched state of Britain’s landscape due to recent heatwaves, the festival is proceeding as planned.
Weather Conditions
The heatwaves, which have seen temperatures in the South West surpass 30C on multiple days since June, have turned fields of grass into a pale straw color. However, hot air balloon pilots will be thankful for the more moderate weather this week, as the festival has been delayed in past years due to rainfall, heavy wind, and soaring temperatures.
Balloons were initially launched at 6am, with another batch scheduled to ascend at 6pm. More takeoffs are expected over the weekend, with over 100 balloons set to take to the skies, weather permitting.
