Hoover High School enters Chip English’s third season as head coach, replacing a talented senior class with a group of players who are ready to step up. English called last season a season of inconsistency, but he is optimistic about the team’s potential this year.
Offense
Senior Kaleb Freeman returns at quarterback, and English expects him to take on a bigger role as a playmaker. The team also has a new offensive coordinator, Williams Eads, who will lead the offense. At running back, junior Malik Boggan and junior Paxton Weatherly will split time carrying the ball.
Defense
Hoover’s secondary returns significant experience, anchored by seniors D.J. Waluyn, Jordan Williams, and Anquan Allen. The team also has a strong defensive line, led by senior Jovon Pulliam, who had an all-state season last year.
The team’s schedule includes games against Muscle Shoals, Opelika, and Hewitt-Trussville, among others. English said the region will be tough, but he is confident in his team’s abilities.
