Nearly 8 in 10 U.S. adults are concerned about their home energy bills this summer, according to a new HarrisX survey. The survey found that 79% of respondents are worried about the cost of keeping their homes cool, while 75% are concerned about the impact of heat waves on their energy costs.
Energy Efficiency
Heating and cooling are among the largest sources of residential energy use, particularly during the summer months. Upgrading to a more energy-efficient HVAC system can help reduce energy consumption and lower bills. However, only 30% of homeowners have upgraded or replaced their HVAC system with a more energy-efficient model.
The primary obstacle for homeowners who have not upgraded their HVAC systems is the upfront cost. Among respondents who have not made an energy-efficient HVAC upgrade, 42% say the initial expense is the primary reason they have delayed doing so.
Experts recommend starting with improvements that reduce overall energy demand, such as sealing air leaks, improving insulation, and installing programmable or smart thermostats. These steps can help improve system performance and reduce energy consumption.
