A homeowner who has lived in the same house for 59 years has given it a dramatic makeover with a colorful nature-inspired mural. Wyndham Stokes’ once dull yellow semi-detached home in Treharris, Wales, has been revamped with a mural that boasts popular UK wildlife such as a robin, a blue tit, and a rabbit.
The Mural’s Creation
The design was created and painted by local mural artist Matt Dey over the course of five days. Wyndham, who was born in the house 59 years ago and has lived there ever since, said he is happy with the result and enjoys looking at it.
Wyndham was inspired to transform his home after wanting something a little different. He reached out to Matt after seeing his beautiful designs online and proposed a loose idea for him to design the front of his house with a ‘nature theme’. The only request Wyndham made was the inclusion of a red kite in the right-hand corner of the design.
Artist’s Challenge
Matt, 51, said he was given complete freedom to design the mural, with the only brief being that he wanted a nature scene. He painted the mural using a spray can with acrylic paint, despite being afraid of heights.
Matt recently appeared at Upfest, Europe’s largest street art festival, and has designed everything from animals to Formula 1 cars. He will now paint the entire house, which will be finished by the end of summer, and will include a pine marten.
