Early Life and Career

Clinton graduated from Wellesley College in 1969 and earned her law degree from Yale University Law School in 1973. She worked as an attorney for the Children’s Defense Fund and later as an assistant professor of law at the University of Arkansas School of Law.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed Clinton to the board of directors of the Legal Services Corp. She also worked at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was named partner in 1979.

Politics and Public Service

Clinton’s husband, Bill, was elected governor of Arkansas in 1978, and she continued to work at the Rose Law Firm. In 1992, Bill Clinton was elected president, and Hillary Clinton became the first lady. She led the Task Force on National Health Care Reform and testified before the House Ways and Means Committee in support of the president’s health care package.

In 2000, Clinton was elected to the US Senate, becoming the first former first lady to be elected to the Senate. She was reelected in 2006 and served until 2009, when she became secretary of state under President Barack Obama.

In 2015, Clinton announced her candidacy for the 2016 presidential election. She won the Democratic nomination but lost the general election to Donald Trump.
