They found their perfect home, a 1930s charmer with plenty of room for their five dogs and De La Garza’s mom. The neighborhood’s proximity to the San Antonio River, Riverside Golf Course, and downtown San Antonio were also major selling points.

What De La Garza didn’t expect was how quickly the neighborhood would feel like home. Her neighbors, a mix of long-time residents and newcomers, genuinely care about one another. De La Garza has even become the go-to person for community cat rescue efforts, volunteering with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) to help care for the neighborhood’s feline friends.

Diversity and Charm

Highland Park’s diversity is one of its strongest assets, with a mix of young families, veterans, and small business owners. The neighborhood is home to popular spots like Tandem, a coffee, beer, and wine shop, and Con Amor Cocina, a restaurant serving up delicious Mexican cuisine. De La Garza encourages visitors to explore the neighborhood, grab a cup of coffee, and take a stroll through Bode Community Park to experience the community’s charm for themselves.
