A popular sherpa heated blanket sold on Amazon is being recalled due to risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. The recall was issued on July 30 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, citing the electrical cord on the blankets can detach and ignite.
There have been 555 reports of blankets or throws melting, sparking and smoking, resulting in 27 fires and 15 burns or electrical shock injuries. The recall affects more than 170,000 blankets sold under the name OCTROT Electric throws and blankets, popularly sold on Amazon.
The throws and blankets have a white controller with five temperature settings, and the controller’s cord has two or four small holes at the lower connection point near the controller. These products were sold online at amazon.com from August 2021 through December 2025 for between $40 and $60.
Anyone with a recalled throw or blanket should contact OCTROT for a full refund. When disposing of the recalled blankets, remove the electrical cord from the blanket, and cut it in half. The company asks consumers to send a photo of the destroyed product, showing the cut electrical cord to [email protected].
