Heat expected to stay 10‑15°F above normal through the weekend in Northwest Arkansas

Fayetteville, Ark. — The 40/29 Get Ready Weather Team is forecasting another stretch of above‑average heat for Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. Temperatures are expected to run 10 to 15 degrees above normal from Thursday through the weekend, with only a brief chance of a stray shower on Thursday afternoon.

Detailed forecast

Chief Meteorologist Darby Bybee explained that high temperatures on Thursday will hover in the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, climbing even higher on Friday and Saturday. The heat will be most pronounced in the river valley, where humidity may make the “feels‑like” temperature feel even hotter.

While the chance of precipitation is low, the team noted a scattered, isolated shower could develop Thursday afternoon, offering a brief respite for those outdoors. No severe weather is expected, but the public should remain aware of sudden changes in conditions.

Safety recommendations

With the heat persisting, the weather team urges residents to take common-sense precautions:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you are working or exercising outdoors.
  • Avoid strenuous activity during the peak heat hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wear lightweight, light‑colored clothing and a hat to reduce direct sun exposure.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, children, and pets, who are most vulnerable to heat‑related illness.
  • If you feel dizzy, nauseated, or unusually fatigued, move to a cooler location and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
