The HBO series ‘Task’ has tense standoffs between cops and criminals, gunfights, and heists. However, its most dramatic moment may be a character reading a victim impact statement in court.
Creator’s Vision
‘Task’ creator and showrunner Brad Ingelsby said the idea for the show was to explore the emotional journey of a man of faith who lost his faith in the face of tragedy.
Ingelsby, who previously worked on ‘Mare of Easttown,’ said he wanted to create a character who would have to find his way back to faith. The title ‘Task’ refers to both the police team and the religious responsibilities that linger in the character.
Ingelsby drew inspiration from real-life experiences of parents of children with mental disabilities. He read about a parent who hated Fridays because they had to care for their child alone on weekends.
Production and Cast
Ingelsby has been writing films for 15 years but found success with ‘Mare of Easttown.’ He moved back to the area outside Philadelphia where he grew up and set ‘Task’ there.
The show features Mark Ruffalo as a former priest-turned-FBI agent seeking redemption for himself and his son. Tom Pelphrey plays a lost-soul criminal at the center of the story.
The second season of ‘Task’ will include Mahershala Ali as a DEA agent and Martha Plimpton as Ruffalo’s FBI supervisor.
