Harrison County Commissioners Court has approved a new no-wake zone on Caddo Lake in East Texas. The boating speed restriction aims to help protect people and property. Harrison County Sheriff Brandon “BJ” Fletcher explained that the no-wake zone will be particularly beneficial for emergency services that utilize Big Pines Dock.
The 175-yard wake zone will also help prevent damage to docked boats and make it safer for people boarding or leaving boats near the shoreline. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the county sheriff’s office will share the responsibility of enforcing the no-wake zone. Violators could face local fines.
Enforcement and Safety
There will be a short grace period before formal citations are issued in the new no-wake zone. Authorities emphasize the importance of slowing down in wake zones, which will take about a minute to get across the designated area.
