A recent poll conducted by The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll found that former Vice President Kamala Harris is still the leading candidate in the Democratic primary, but her support, as well as that of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, may be slipping. Harris captured 27% of the 1,224 polled, while Newsom came in second with 14% support.
Shifting Support
Harris and Newsom have both seen a decline in support since the previous polls in October and March. Harris was at 33% in the fall and 31% in March, while Newsom had 21% in the fall and 16% in March. Meanwhile, former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has broken into the double digits for the first time, jumping 4 points from the 7% he held in the earlier polls.
Seventeen percent of voters surveyed indicated they were unsure who they would vote for in the 2028 primary. Harris performed best among Black and young voters, with 49% of Black voters polled saying they would vote for her in 2028, and 48% of voters ages 18-29. Among voters grouped by education level, Harris drew the most support from those without a college education, at 35%.
