Harris accuses Republicans of voter‑suppression ahead of 2026 midterms

Former Vice President Kamala Harris told former U.S. women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe on the podcast “What Are You Like?” that she believes the Republican Party is engaged in “cheating” ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Harris said the GOP is redrawing district lines and pursuing policies that make it more difficult for people to cast ballots, which she described as an attempt to silence the “power of the people.”

Harris vows to devote full‑time effort to the midterms

“Midterms, midterms, midterms, full‑time occupying my thoughts, my mind, and my work,” Harris said. “We have to win these midterms. These — these folks are cheating. They’re redrawing lines. They’re trying to make it more difficult for people to vote so they won’t vote because they are afraid of the power of the people.”

She added that she is spending “full‑time working on doing everything I can to help people restore some balance in our government,” which she says means winning back the House and Senate to “stop the madness.”

Comments from Republican officials

RNC Election Integrity Communications Director Ally Triolo responded to Harris’s remarks, stating, “If Kamala Harris is upset Republicans are going after the illegals and fraudsters trying to vote, it makes you wonder if she’s taking crazy pills again. Voter ID and proof of citizenship are common sense, but Democrats can’t win elections without cheating the system.”

Future political plans

When asked whether she is considering a run for president in 2028, Harris said she has not decided, noting, “From my perspective, ’28 doesn’t matter if we don’t win ’26.” She emphasized the importance of a Democratic victory in the upcoming midterms above any personal ambition.

Broader context of the debate

Harris’s comments come amid ongoing national debates over election integrity, voter‑ID laws, and the redistricting process. While Democrats argue that restrictive voting measures suppress participation, Republicans maintain that such measures protect against fraud. The conversation reflects a broader partisan clash over how elections should be conducted and who should have access to the ballot.

In recent weeks, both parties have been mobilizing supporters and fundraising for the 2026 midterm cycle, with particular focus on swing districts where redistricting changes could affect outcomes. The stakes are high for both sides as control of Congress will shape the legislative agenda for the remainder of President Trump’s term.
