The Harborplace redevelopment project in Baltimore is set to begin this fall, with the first phase costing around $300 million and creating hundreds of jobs. The project will affect 22 to 23 acres of waterfront and will include the demolition of the two Harborplace pavilions at Light and Pratt streets.
Project Details
The first phase, called the Inner Harbor Park and Promenade Project, will take six to seven years to complete and will involve the reconstruction of West Shore Park. The park will be redesigned to include a memorial honoring Baltimoreans who led the redevelopment of the Inner Harbor starting in the 1960s.
The vertical construction phase, which includes two apartment towers, offices, shops, and restaurants, is expected to begin in 2027 and will also take six to seven years to complete. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $900 million or more.
Job Opportunities
A subcontractor outreach event was held on Wednesday to inform local businesses about the job opportunities available. The event was attended by over 150 people, including representatives from the local construction industry, Minority Business Enterprises, and Women-owned Business Enterprises.
The developer, MCB Real Estate, is committed to providing jobs for as many local businesses as possible. The company’s co-founder and managing partner, P. David Bramble, said that the project is a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” for local businesses to be involved in the redevelopment of Harborplace.
