Hamilton City Council is set to vote on a proposal that would allow marijuana dispensaries to open in the city. The proposal would permit dispensaries in specific areas, including a stretch between Hancock Ave. and South Erie Boulevard.
Zoning Changes
If approved, the ordinance would require dispensaries to be at least 1,000 feet from schools and childcare facilities and would ban them in Hamilton’s local historic district. Neighboring communities, such as Monroe, Oxford, and Seven Mile, have seen financial benefits since opening dispensaries.
Lauren Nelson, the city’s planning director, emphasized that this decision is being treated as a land use issue, similar to other zoning matters. The council has held two public hearings to gather resident concerns and input.
