A group campaigning to build the world’s tallest flagpole in southwest Missouri has raised over $200,000 for the project. Old Glory Rising, led by Nathanael Toms, operator of Mr. Electric in Springfield, aims to unite America through this monument.
Project Details
Toms officially announced the group’s plans during the Chuck Wiley Athletic Foundation Home Run Derby at the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex. Donors are pledging bricks to the project at $250 apiece, which will be placed at the base of the flagpole. The campaign has received over $230,000 as of July 10, with around 1,000 bricks pledged so far.
The campaign organizers have not publicly disclosed the site for the monument, but Brett Payne, an Old Glory Rising board member, said it’s very close to the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex. Toms previously stated that the property for the project has not been purchased yet, and Springfield-based Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective is the architect.
Toms hopes to see the project completed in two years. The group is in the process of acquiring nonprofit status, and donors will be able to share the stories behind the people named on the bricks they pledge.
