Greenville Manhunt

Police in Greenville, Orange County, are searching for a man suspected of killing his father and setting fire to his home to cover it up. The investigation began around 7:30 p.m. Thursday when emergency crews responded to a home on Greenville Turnpike that was engulfed in flames. As firefighters battled the blaze, they found Robert Ryan, 70, dead inside the home.

Suspect Sought

Investigators are searching for 32-year-old Thomas David Ryan. Ring camera video obtained by ABC News appears to show the 32-year-old running from his father’s house. Officials say the suspect did not reside with his father at the time of the incident and has no other known current ties to the Greenville community.

Robert Ryan’s daughter, Stephanie Coiro, said her father was a pillar in both their family and every community he was a part of. She described her brother, the suspect, as having severe mental illness and being off his medication, which made him dangerous.

Coiro said her brother had called their father, saying he was in Plattsburgh and had lost his bus ticket. Their father went to pick him up and brought him back to his house, where the incident occurred. Coiro believes the tragedy was preventable and that the signs of her brother’s mental illness had been present for 20 years.

Police said Ryan was last seen in the area of Greenville Turnpike wearing a black T-shirt and black sweatpants. Authorities believe he is driving a 2016 gray Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

Police are urging anyone who sees him not to approach him and to call 911 immediately or contact the State Police Middletown Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
