Senator Lindsey Graham recently shared his thoughts on the proposed $300 billion fund for Iran, stating that he would support the deal if the funds came from Sunni Arab nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
Graham’s Change of Heart
Graham had previously criticized the concept as ‘tone-deaf’ and compared it to a ‘Marshall Plan for Germany with the Nazis still in charge.’ However, he now believes that if the funds came from Sunni Arab nations, it would be a sign that Iran has changed and is willing to be a business partner.
Graham also discussed his recent meeting with Donald Trump, where the president outlined his plan to take control of the Strait of Hormuz by force if diplomatic efforts fail. According to Graham, Trump plans to charge transiting vessels fees to fund the operation and will ‘obliterate’ Iran if it contests US control.
Domestic Intelligence Matters
The conversation also touched on domestic intelligence matters, including the vacancy at the top of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Graham expressed concern over the intelligence dispute and urged Trump to let his nominee, Jay Clayton, testify and secure confirmation.
