Governor Braun Calls for State Action on Indianapolis Violence

In the wake of a tragic incident in Indianapolis where a 14-year-old took the life of 23-year-old Brett Scrogham in a parking garage, Governor Mike Braun is urging for increased state involvement to address violence in the city. Speaking with Tony Katz, Governor Braun expressed his belief that the state must play a more active role in curbing such violence. He noted that the incident has caught the attention of legislators who are now considering measures to address the issue.

Governor Braun remarked, “The tragedy of that event I think shocked everyone. 23-year-old parking a vehicle and somebody comes up from behind and takes your life I think that was a straw that’s probably going to break the camel’s back in this one.” He emphasized the importance of legislative action, stating, “I think you’ve got legislators probably taking notice because we’re not doing our job.”

In addition to discussing local violence, Governor Braun touched on the potential relocation of the Chicago Bears to Indiana. He mentioned that the state has made an attractive offer to the team, which could benefit both parties. “It’s an incredible deal for them, and I think it’s going to be a winner for us who’s waiting in the wings here,” he said.

The conversation also covered the upcoming Republican Convention in Fort Wayne and the Secretary of State’s race. Governor Braun highlighted the importance of addressing affordability issues within the state, particularly in areas like property taxes and utility rates, which have been key themes for him.

Governor Braun’s comments underscore the need for proactive measures in addressing violence and economic opportunities within Indiana. His call for state intervention in local issues reflects a commitment to ensuring safety and prosperity for residents.
