Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’s recent jab at President Donald Trump over the troubled Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool cleanup has drawn swift criticism from conservatives online. Walz’s post, which compared Trump’s presidency to the Reflecting Pool’s issues, was met with accusations of hypocrisy due to a massive fraud scandal in Minnesota under his watch.
Backlash on Social Media
Conservatives pointed out that Walz’s inability to stop scammers involved in the fraud scandal makes his opinion on the Reflecting Pool less convincing. Journalist Mark Hemingway posted on X, ‘I’m sorry, TIM WALZ is accusing someone else of enabling grifting?’
Former Trump White House spokesman Harrison Fields also responded, highlighting the real problems faced by Americans during Trump’s presidency, such as inflation, an open border, and fentanyl-related deaths. Fields stated that these issues were not imagined but lived by voters, which is why Walz is a retiring governor and failed VP nominee.
Trump himself posted on Truth Social, alleging vandalism at the Reflecting Pool and stating that it is being taken care of. He mentioned that the Reflecting Pool was vandalized with a 300-foot-long gash, chemicals were illegally placed in the water, and the new grass field was destroyed.
