Goodwill Opens New Superstore and Free Training Center in Ridgefield

Ridgefield welcomed a major community resource on September 3 when Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette opened a new superstore and vocational training center at 121 South 65th Avenue. The 11,000‑plus‑square‑foot facility houses a retail floor staffed by more than 40 employees and a dedicated career‑connection area where Goodwill’s Vocational Services team provides free classes, certifications and job‑placement assistance.

Free training that adds up to thousands of learning hours

In 2025, Goodwill instructors across northwest and central Oregon and southwest Washington logged over 40,000 hours of free skills training – the equivalent of four full years of classroom time. The Ridgefield location continues that mission, offering courses ranging from basic computer literacy to advanced trades such as welding and automotive repair. All programs are tuition‑free, reflecting Goodwill’s long‑standing commitment to helping individuals improve their employability without financial barriers.

Grand opening celebration

The ribbon‑cutting ceremony featured Ridgefield Mayor Matt Cole, city council members, chamber of commerce representatives and Goodwill’s Vocational Services Director David Miller. A local DJ provided entertainment while complimentary coffee and pastries were served to the first wave of visitors. Throughout the opening weekend, attendees could enter daily drawings for $100 Goodwill gift cards, encouraging community members to explore the new store and training offerings.

Economic and family impact

Beyond the immediate job opportunities created by the store’s staff, the training center aims to strengthen families throughout the area. By equipping parents and young adults with marketable skills, Goodwill helps households achieve greater financial stability, a cornerstone of strong neighborhoods. The center also partners with local employers, facilitating direct connections between graduates and open positions in the region.

Looking ahead

Goodwill plans to rotate additional career‑center instructors throughout the year, ensuring a diverse slate of courses that respond to evolving labor‑market needs. Community members are encouraged to register for classes online or stop by the center during regular business hours. With its blend of retail services and free vocational training, the Ridgefield Goodwill location stands as a tangible example of how nonprofit initiatives can bolster local economies while upholding family values and personal liberty.
