Good Good Golf, the popular YouTube channel and golf‑apparel brand, announced major leadership changes after a controversial advertisement sparked a fallout with equipment maker Callaway. President Joe Flannery, who had been in the role for only a few days, is stepping down, and co‑founder and CEO Matt Kendrick is also exiting the company.
Leadership transition
According to a memo from Alex Puchala, Good Good’s leader of operations and finance, co‑founder Nahid Giga will serve as interim CEO while the company navigates the crisis. The memo, shared with employees on Wednesday, confirmed the departures and outlined the temporary leadership structure.
Ad controversy and partnership loss
In late August, Good Good partnered with Callaway on a new driver and released a promotional video. The ad showed co‑founder Garrett Clark shoving a female brand member to the ground, prompting immediate backlash. The video was quickly removed, and both companies issued apologies.
Callaway subsequently terminated its partnership with Good Good, ended a planned PGA Tour sponsorship, and saw Good Good apparel removed from several retail shelves. In a statement, Callaway CEO Chip Brewer said the company’s “content review process was not comprehensive enough” and that they have taken “appropriate internal corrective actions and significantly strengthened our approval procedures to help ensure this does not happen again.”
CEO’s public response
Matt Kendrick took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize Callaway, accusing the manufacturer of approving the ad, then shifting blame onto Good Good while launching a coordinated media push. He hinted at possible legal action, though the post was later deleted.
Despite the turmoil, Good Good Golf has resumed posting new content on its YouTube channel, which boasts over two million subscribers.
