Golf trips are no longer just about playing as much golf as possible. With more women taking up the game, the itinerary is getting a lot more interesting. A survey by Golfbreaks found that 44 percent of women prefer to play with friends, while 28 percent choose to play with family. Fewer than 3 percent prefer competitions or organized events.
Women’s Golf Getaways
Sea Island, along Georgia’s Atlantic coast, has built trips specifically for women. Its Women’s Golf Getaways combine three championship courses and the resort’s 17,000-square-foot Golf Performance Center with 14 hours of instruction. The evenings are free for dinner and time together, with a five-mile private beach, a Forbes Five-Star spa, and restaurants ranging from Italian to drinks at River Bar & Lounge.
Cabot Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Canada, has also been putting more weight behind the women’s game. Its first professional sports partnership is with LPGA champion Brooke Henderson, and Women’s Golf Day programming has expanded across its properties. Women’s rental clubs are now available at every Cabot destination, and women make up half of the company’s executive team.
Alternative Formats
Golfbreaks noted that alternative formats, such as nine-hole rounds and simulator golf, make the game less intimidating for beginners and shift the focus toward having fun rather than keeping score. Frisco, Texas, takes that flexibility even further, with the PGA of America offering women-focused lessons and small-group clinics for beginners.
