Golden Knights Secure Thrilling 5-4 Double Overtime Win Against Hurricanes

The Vegas Golden Knights emerged victorious in a thrilling 5-4 double overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, taking a 2-1 lead in the Stanley Cup Final series. The game, held at T-Mobile Arena, was marked by a dramatic comeback attempt from the Hurricanes, who rallied from a four-goal deficit in the third period.

Golden Knights’ Early Dominance

Vegas appeared to have control of the game after scoring four times in the second period, including a historic natural hat trick by Mitch Marner, who set a record for the fastest hat trick in Cup Final history. Marner also contributed a total of four points during the period, a feat last achieved in 1919 by Frank Foyston of the Seattle Metropolitans.

Despite the Golden Knights’ strong performance, the Hurricanes mounted an impressive comeback in the third period. Goals by Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall, and Jordan Staal, scored within a span of 39 seconds, set the stage for a dramatic finish. Andrei Svechnikov’s power-play goal with 1:42 left in regulation forced the game into overtime.

Double Overtime Decider

The game concluded in double overtime when Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore’s shot deflected off the skate of Carolina’s backup goalie, Brandon Bussi, who had been substituted in the third period. Bussi, who hadn’t played in two months, made 18 saves after replacing Frederik Andersen, who allowed four goals on 16 shots.

Golden Knights coach John Tortorella expressed his amazement at the game’s intensity, stating, “I have experienced a lot of games in playoffs. I haven’t experienced one like this.”

The series continues with Game 4 scheduled for Tuesday night in Las Vegas. Historically, teams with a 2-1 series lead have gone on to win the Cup 80.7% of the time.
