Gloucester Commemorates Battle of 1775

Officials have gathered in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to kick off a historic weekend of events commemorating the Battle of Gloucester, which took place in 1775 during the Revolutionary War.

Historic Reenactment

The battle reenactments, both by land and sea, will bring to life the British attempt to raid Gloucester Harbor. In addition, there will be a number of programs throughout the day that will bring to life the civilian experience of the American Revolution, with costumed historical interpreters portraying the townspeople who lived and worked in Gloucester in 1775.

A baseball field will become a small village. Schooners will anchor just offshore, and behind the beach will be hundreds of tents for soldiers, turning Gloucester’s Stage Fort Park into a living history lesson.

Event Details

The reenactment runs all weekend on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21. Organizers are asking people to take public transit. There will be a shuttle to pick people up at the train station.
